Hello and welcome to SparrowSpeaks! Not only will you get to know more about me here, but you'll hopefully also learn some tips that I've been picking up. Today I wanted to get a post on here about websites because that's what I've been working on, but I'll also be updating you on EVERYTHING that I'm currently up to.
First off, big thanks to Wix for creating such a user-friendly interface. In my senior seminar class, we were discussing different websites editors, like Canva and SquareSpace. In my opinion, Wix seems like the best and easiest option, especially the free version. I'm only planning to upgrade so I can get a custom domain. Meanwhile, from what I heard, Canva seems like the next best option—it's very pretty, as tends to be Canva's domain. SquareSpace makes you pay and doesn't even give you a custom domain at the first level, which (to me) would be a huge deterrent. Out of all of us, it seems like I had the easiest time. (I promise I'm not being paid, okay?)
I'm planning to have seven or eight pages for my website. I really should get some proper headshots of me, but... I much prefer taking pictures of other people and things. These pictures will be good backgrounds, then, as I'm sure you've seen!
Obviously, one page is this blog. I think I’ll title it SparrowSpeaks! Blogs are apparently crazy important for any online presence—it makes sense considering you want people to like you as much as they like your work. I can detail my work process, book reviews, music reviews, digital audio workstation (DAW) reviews... anything! I hope my jack-of-all-trades personality won’t be a deterrent when included in a chaotic blog format, but I suppose we’ll just throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. It’ll also be a great place to draw some writing samples from when applying for freelance writing work.
I checked out the AI text that Wix offers, and it’s creepily good, so it’ll be a placeholder until I figure out exactly what I want to say. I want this to be a place to shop my services, but I also want this to be a place to connect with others. I’d love to write a post on my blog and see other people commenting their thoughts!
That’s all for the website for now. I’m hopeful and excited with it.
I'm gonna give you a quick overview of all my current projects:
My book! This is still in the planning stages, but I'm hoping to do some writing today. It's about Ancient Rome, virginity, LGBTQ+ individuals... I'm excited :)
My friend and I are working on a graphic novel together. I'm almost done with issue 2, I think there might be ten pages left of drawing? I'll check back later and make a proper percentage.
I'm making themes for my friends' Dungeons and Dragons characters. Originally they were just going to be LoFi tracks... but I got a little carried away. I'm also going to draw some illustrations to go along with each track when I put it on YouTube!
I have a cute little one-page comic I'll probably finish within the week.
Classes are done, so I'm just holding out for when I get back home. I've been picking up a lot of new freelance projects, so I'm ready for a huge amount of work to hit me! It's like the calm before the storm. The low tide before the tsunami!
Talk soon!
